Friends of the Libraries

The Friends of the Library is a non-profit group of volunteers who, through various activities, provide support to the Lamar County Library System branches.

The Friends groups meet periodically to discuss ways to help their library branch. Members of the Friends of the Library organization make the public more aware of the services and resources offered by the library. The Friends of the Library also help promote special programs hosted by the library.

Benefits:

· Have an impact on the kinds of services and resources your local library provides
· Have an impact in the community
· Enjoy a one-month check-out period

Responsibilities:

Friends join a local friends group by visiting the local library or contacting the local friends group. Please visit your local library or the local library home page link from the main page for more information. Members register and pay annual dues and are encouraged to attend meetings, provide refreshments for special programs and events, volunteer during special programs and events, and support and advocate for the library in the community.

You may choose to become very involved: serve as a project director, secretary, or treasurer; attend local government meetings to urge city and county officials to invest in the library; lobby for and help raise funds to support, enhance, and expand library services. Each member decides how he or she will participate.

Ongoing Book Sale:

The Friends of the Library groups at each branch have established ongoing book sale shelves or carts in the library. New materials are updated as donations become available. Proceeds from the sale directly benefit the library. Occasionally Friends will sponsor a larger book sale at each library when inventory allows.
