The Big Read!
The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett

The Lamar County Library System in conjunction with the University of Southern Mississippi, The Library of Hattiesburg, Petal, and Forrest County, and (TBA) are proud to present the 2010 Big Read book for Forrest and Lamar Counties - The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett. There will be many events associated with the Big Read starting in September and continuing through November, but for now, the Oak Grove Public Library has one very special event.

Mary Anna Evans, author of the Faye Longchamp Mysteries and an Oak Grove native, will be at the Oak Grove Public Library on Tuesday, October 12 at 5:30 p.m. in order to discuss mysteries and her latest book, which comes out this same day! Immediately after Mrs. Evans' talk, we will have a jazz combo, Falcon Noir, perform for all of those in attendance. Oh, and there will also be refreshments!

Please see the YouTube video below for a bit more about The Maltese Falcon.

The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts
in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest. For more information, please visit www.neabigread.org.

Library Amphitheater
Open for business...

The library amphitheater is open for business and we have already had a few programs using this new feature. There are still a few things to do in order to have it 100%, but it is accessible enough to be used now. Please keep an eye out for programs featuring the library's new amphitheater. Pictured is an event featuring local author and bird guru Ronnie Blackwell.
